Kidney Renal Cancer Targeting Solutions

Kidney cancer begins in the kidneys as a result of uncontrolled cell division. The abnormal cell growth leads to the formation of a lump (cancerous tumor), which can then spread to other organs such as brain or lungs.

There are different types of kidney or renal cancer. Some are common, while others are less common. Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is the most prevalent type of cancer in adults, while Wilms’ tumor is common among children. There are different subtypes of renal cell carcinoma, such as clear cell RCC (the most common type of RCC) and non-clear cell RCC (papillary, chromophobe, medullary carcinoma, multilocular cystic). Other renal cancers include transitional cell carcinomas, renal sarcomas, and Wilms tumors.

Renal cancer can affect anyone predisposed to the risk factors. Some common risk factors include gender (men are twice as likely to develop renal cancer), smoking, high blood pressure, obesity, long-term exposure to asbestos, family history of renal cancer or certain genetic disorders, prolonged dialysis treatment, and age (older people are more prone to kidney cancer than younger people).

As kidney cancer advances, it produces noticeable symptoms such as a lump in the kidney region, high blood pressure, blood in the urine, fatigue, unexplained weight loss, bone pain, pain on the side or back, anemia, and fever.

Kidney cancer treatment may involve surgery or therapy. Commonly used therapies include immunotherapy and targeted therapy, while chemotherapy and radiotherapy are also used in some cases. Sometimes surgery and therapy treatment may be combined. People with advanced cancer may also receive a combination of different therapies. Treatments are classified as either local or systematic treatments, depending on the nature of administration. Local treatments (surgery) focus on the tumor and do not affect other body parts. In contrast, systematic treatment (drug therapy) involves administering drugs into the bloodstream or orally, thereby reaching the cancerous cells wherever they are in the body. Finally, palliative treatment may be administered to relieve symptoms when cancer cannot be removed.
